The UN Resident Coordinator is responsible for leading of the UN Country Team in strategy, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of development programmes detailed in One UN for Afghanistan (2018 – 2021).These duties focus on ensuring maximum impact and coherence of support in alignment with the Government’s priorities, particularly the Afghanistan National Peace and Development Framework, and promoting the development of the underpinning structures necessary for long-term socio-economic development in Afghanistan, in line with the 2030 Agenda.
Mr. Toby Lanzer of the United Kingdom is the UN Secretary General’s Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), where he also serves as United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Mr. Lanzer brings significant experience in development, humanitarian affairs and peacekeeping since first joining UNDP in 1992. His most recent positions included Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Sahel, Deputy Special Representative, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and Chief of Staff with the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT). He also served with the United Nations in Georgia, Russian Federation and Switzerland.
