The UN Country Team, is one of 130 UN country teams under the UN development system that serve a total of 164 programme countries and territories. The Country Team comprises 24 UN entities, of which 20 are resident. Non-resident entities are redominantly normative and specialised agencies, which often operate mixed models of country presence. In Afghanistan, these include UNAIDS, IAEA, IFAD, and UNCTAD. UNITAR operates separately through the Afghanistan Fellowship Programme.
The UNCT meets on a weekly basis and focuses on substantive strategic discussions on development issues. As a vehicle for moving towards Delivering as One, and in order to ensure effective implementation of the One UN for Afghanistan Results Framework and related joint programmes, the UNCT has established management structures (inter-agency groups) with specific deliverables and inter-agency accountabilities.
